    horsebox driving,what licence is needed?

Depends on your age and when you passed your test. I passed mine before 1997 so I can drive anything up to 7.5 tons as well as towing. Anyone 17yrs and over can drive a 3.5ton horse box but if you did your test after 1997 then you would need to do another test to drive anything bigger or tow a...

    pessoa v long reining

If I've understood correctly, it gets the horse using it's back end more without the interference of the rider making it lighter in front. I've long reined on a large circle in the past due to injury of the horse as riding it was not an option.

    pessoa v long reining

Is long reining really just as good as what the pessoa aims to do?? I was looking into pessoas and found some people saying that long reining was just as good. I've long reined in the past and used a pessoa for the 1st time last week (under trainers guidence) and I think the pessoa worked...

Buying an older horse - thoughts?

When I was 10yrs my mum bought us a fab 13.1hh who was 13/14yrs old. We had years of fun doing dr, jumping, games on him and my sister had to be peeled of him when she was 16yrs as she was so big on him! He would have been 19/20yrs old. He was in no way ready to retire so he went out on loan...

How do you afford to Event??

With very supportive family and trainers! I keep my horses at my parents who pay for bedding and feed and up until last year paid all the fuel costs to compete. (I now pay that). My jumping trainer is 10 mins away who has showjumps/banks/ditches and doesn't charge me as much as he should...

    Sacroiliac injury - reintroducing canter

Once my mare was sound in trot and level behind again I then introduced canter. She struggled in canter as it did hurt a bit but I was told I had to ride her through the bucking to improve the muscle tone around the SI. She is a big horse and I was not big or strong enough to ride her through...

Ifor Williams 510/511 vs EquiTrek SpaceTreka L?

We had a IW 510 which my 16.2hh WB would go into but she was not a great loader, I never knew if it was going to take my 5 or 50 mins to get her in. Apart from stomping when travelling she was fine, although she was better with no travel boots. We got a ET spacetreka L, mainly because we...

    You know summers coming when......

Urm, not sure, maybe when it's more than 3 days of having no rugs on! I've managed 2 days so far then had to put the medium rugs back on as it got so blumming cold again :)

    Swallows

Ours don't usually come back until nearer may. I hate the little things and dread ours coming back as they crap over everything, horses, cars, washing on line nothing is safe from being splatted! I'd be happy if only 1 pair came back. Although my mum still loves them

    Livery needed Glasgow area

My friend has bought a house in the centre of Glasgow and is now looking for livery for one 15.2hh and one 13.2hh. She would prefer it on the east side of Glasgow but if the right one is else where then so be it. She is not too fussy about facilities but would like good hacking. I think...

Premier Equine over reach boots - sizing and thoughts?!

I found the PE overreach boots don't fit the hooves if they are short and fat like my mare's feet. She is normally a large in the rubber ones but I couldn't get the velcro to meet so tried the XL and although the velcro meets the boots still turned round on her.

    The Perfect 3.5t Horsebox

I would 2nd the idea of lots of ventilation/windows in the horse area, even with one horse in on a hot day it will get warm in there. I would have the external tack locker on the same side as the ramp as with only one horse I always tack up/put boots on etc in the lorry so getting the tack is...

    Insurance for 3.5 tonne lorry

NFU. It offered the best price and there's an office in my town so it's easy to go in and enquiry if needs be. They have always been very helpful. They offered breakdown cover to be included in the price or I could get a cheaper price but then they give you a card with a phone number on it to...

Any competition horses with EPSM or sacroiliac injuries?

My horse had a SI injury 3 months after I'd bought her as a 5 yr old. She had never competed but I'd bought her to event, long story short she came sound and strong and I competed her successfully to 1* BE level with no more problems with SI. She is now retired from eventing at 16 yrs due to...
