I have found that a bit extra weight, muscle and very intense hill stregnthening in straight lines has made my mares almost none existent , may be worth trying that? Have you got a physio involved as they can often help with exercises / stretches where they are compensating with other muscles.
Thanks will keep that in mind... just been up to see her and they're looking even worse, she's absolutely covered and they look so red and angry :-( I'm at a loss!

For around three weeks my mare has been suffering with stubborn hives, which started after she was brought in from the field, after I believe, becoming too hot in her turnout (although it could have been a number of other factors that caused it)...
Depending on your horses height and if you wanted to start doing showing you might be better hogging and trimming and showing in working cob classes :-)
I'm definitely not an expert in barefoot but do have two of mine barefoot. I'm of the opinion that when. Arefoot the horse is far more aware of where they're putting their feet and the ground underfoot. When one of mine was shod she did stride out a lot more over all terrain, but when barefoot...
