It looks to be healing well. Shame about the pressure sore though.
My lad's wound wasn't quite as big and was higher up, but we didn't bandage at all after the first day.
I'm also looking for breaking livery in Staffordshire...I've got a couple of recommendations so far but would like to go and see a few people really and choose from there.
That's a relief that he's been sound since. Yes Bryan had 3 lots of x-rays. We had to get a emergency vet out boxing day as we were out of our area. Then our usual vet came out the following day and x-rayed as the wound went right to the bone. They thought it was chipped but there was nothing...
It's amazing how quickly they can heal. I hope it continues so well for you. My lad was kicked on boxing day whilst out hunting. His wound looked pretty similar but perhaps didn't open quite as wide. His was pretty much completely healed in 4-6 weeks with antibiotics, bathing with salt water and...
Thanks for all the advice. Someone had already suggested that grass sugars may be in issue but with only having limited grazing I already bring them onto the concrete yard mid afternoon, then he's stabled overnight, so hopefully that will help.
My ex-racer's shoes are coming off next week. He's on Pro Hoof, micronised linseed and speedibeet but that's only been for the last couple of weeks, though he was on a very low sugar/high fibre diet beforehand. I was just hoping to ask for some advice on boots as I've read some conflicting...
I've got a Barrie Swain Semiflex jumping saddle and a Humphries and Swain dressage saddle for sale...only available as I've just got my horse a new semiflex WH
Thanks both...feeling a bit more optimistic now! Thankfully he's being very sensible cross tied at the moment, though I'm sure that will probably change at some point!
Does anyone have any experience with a hairline radial fracture? My lad has one after being kicked a fortnight ago. He's been cross tied since and is being re-xrayed in a couple of weeks time. I know the next few weeks will be critical in terms of preventing a complete fracture but I was...
I want to start my lad on a more 'barefoot friendly' diet in preparation for his shoes coming off. I've noticed there's quite a price difference between pro balance and pro hoof - is the pro hoof worth the extra?
Brilliant, thanks both. Farrier's not due for another 3 weeks so I'll get him to just roll the edges when he does take them off. I'll also see about changing his diet over the next couple of weeks too.
Roughly how long do hoof boots last? Is it a case of using them each time he's ridden...
