They should blame the owner for telling her to put a broom in with the puppies, and also for leaving an older person and an 11 year old child with 2 adult XLBullies . Perhaps they did get upset when she tried to stop the puppies fighting but how was she to know ? I really hope the owner gets plenty of punishment for putting both the gran and the grandson at risk with his dogs, ignorant pig!!!

He might well get sentenced leniently because of his son who is now without his grandmother as well as his mum 😢. The poor lad.

He’s not much of a parent, but he is the lad’s dad.
I don’t think he will. I believe this is the first case since the new laws came in so hopefully they will make an example of him.

'A mum who tried to cover up a devastating XL Bully attack on her daughter’s 10-year-old friend has been jailed.'

I’ve no words really. But what hope do these dogs have when owned by people like these.
That article really brings home the point of the ban to me.

Just shows how stupid and selfish these people are , the more I read about these attacks the more I agree about the ban , I was very much of the opinion that it was the owners and not the breed but have now changed my mind. We hear the same thing time and time again that they are good with children but once again the dog flipped , hope it has been PTS and the owners other dog as well if it hasn’t been registered..

I still cannot understand why people will not be responsible for their animals - why would you want someone else to take on your little darling when it has already bitten.
For gods sake take your rose coloured specs off. The dog that has bitten the 8 year old in Merseyside was apparently in a flats communal area - so surely that should have
meant it should be on a lead and muzzled. But once again we will probably hear how the dog was amazing - until the inevitable happened.

What an awful thing to write. Yes that poor woman attempted something that an experienced handler would think twice about, especially with no one to hold the other puppy on release and with other loose dogs in the vicinity. She was on her own and trying to prevent harm coming to them or her grandson. How many times had she visited her grandson and the dogs without incident? Probably quite a few and those 'puppies' probably weighed between 50-60 lbs.

The judge on sentencing said it was common knowledge that these dogs attack without warning. Yet Defra have issued 30,000 exemptions. It's a high risk strategy and/or a very slow way of culling unpredictable dogs. Neutering doesn't change a dogs character and muzzles are more likely to be removed indoors where most of these attacks seem to occur.

I have a certain Darwin theory mental attitude to them killing their owners. But when visitors get attacked, especially children, it’s a different ball game altogether.

Unfortunately, it seems that the owners have already produced offspring before the attacks, so the "stupid gene" is not removed from the gene pool.

Several years ago a couple of children were killed by the family's 4 Rottweilers. The parents had left the children and dogs alone. It was horrible. I never let my dogs around children unless I'm there. And no, I don't have any lasagnas.
Then then head of our SPCA started on anyone wanting a Rottweiler or pit bull should get one from the SPCA. I don't think so. They don't truly screen for behavioral issues.
