Another fatal dog attack

That's unfortunate. I do know that all Labs aren't created equal. Same with most breeds, really.

I've never had a blocky headed Lab. Mine have always been quite fine and light in build. A friend prefers the blockheads though!
 
I have experienced more dog aggression in Labs than any other breed. But is this because they are probably the most popular breed and therefore more on the ground? Never, that I can recall, had any aggression from the despised 'poo' x's, and they must be up there with the most popular breeds/types 🤔🤔

My friend has an enormous block headed one, thick as two short planks and the loveliest kindest dog. Hes an emotional support dog for her autistic son. Hes just a huge, bear like dufus.
 
My lurcher puppy was attacked by a very overweight lab when he was 11 months old, finished his agility career before it started and left him with a permanent hind leg weakness. We used to have two black labs locally that would routinely run and chase any dog in the local woods.
There are a lot of badly bred Labs with awful temperaments now, probably over breeding, but also maybe breeding with no regard to the temperament you are passing on ??

Oh poor pup what a shame, my lurcher was attacked by three Springer Spaniels as a pup and she never forgot, she loved my Lab though. A lot of Lab crosses out there and with Labs all looking so different now it's hard to know what's pure and what isn't.

I't s Lab central round here and I can honestly say i've never met an aggressive one, rude and boisterous yes but not aggressive. Most round here have jobs to do though and I'm sure a lot of aggression in dogs now is due to frustration as they aren't exercised mentally enough. Too many people having dogs and expecting them to be perfect without putting any work in or considering the needs of the dog particulaly when they are young.
 
My mum used to have a black lab over 30 years ago. The kids on the street used to knock on the door and ask if Duke could come out play. My mum always used to say yes but make sure he's back for 6.

Wed often see him towing some kid on roller skates down the road. He used to go round their houses for tea and everything.
 
Plenty still do kick them out for the day around here. Then you often get the inevitable woe is me posts and appeals because they have lost their much loved and missed pet. Makes my blood boil, some are never found and my heart breaks imagining exactly who picked them up and what their likely end was.:mad:
 
Around 15-20 years ago, the Labradors who lived nearby could be aggressive - especially the brown ones. There was a local puppy farm who flooded the market with them, which was probably the issue Every owner seemed to get their dogs from a tiny village where the puppy farmer lived ☹️

I remember that vaguely from around the early 90s, died a death in my area at least, before I reached teenagehood luckily.

This dog wasn't kicked out all day BTW, the man used to knock the door and ask for him.

so the banned breed dog on an exemption certificate had a previous bite history nearly a year before it attacked a tiny baby.
What on earth was the baby doing in the same building as the animal, let along in the same room

Different times, different dogs, I have had a couple of dogs who anyone could, and did, take out for walks, others not, when I was growing up there were lots of dogs allowed to roam the streets and play with children, in inner cities/towns and big council/social housing type estates it was very common for there to be 'street dogs' who would be out all day and go home at night to their homes. If you look at pictures of civil unrest during the Troubles, there was often a local street dog or two hanging around and enjoying the excitement!!
And anecdotally, there were less dog on dog attacks or attacks on people too.....

It was one way to socialise a dog and I suspect another reason was that folks wouldn't have thought twice about disciplining other people's dogs, same as they would children. There's a couple of old family tales that end with " he never did it again.."

I think about this quite a lot. My dogs growing up all spent their days mooching around so whatever they wanted and never came to harm. I think dogs today are so unconfident because they are so bubble wrapped they end up neurotic and snap.

But it is also true that back in the day there wasn’t any of these mutated breeds like xl
