Yeah he looks less leggy. Sticked him and he’s 15.1hh now and I think his bum still isn’t level from this pic though maybe it is, tired eyes haha.

If only his back would grow!
Gorgeous - he's such a little chunk, I love him. I agree that he looks bum high still - if he's still got growing to do maybe he'll get a bit longer with it.

I haven't been on the forum for ages but I'm so sorry to hear about Boggle. You always gave him the best.

Thank you! I miss him terribly :( But, coping.

Atlas is a real diamond, he is very bold with life like Bog but doesn't seem to have the same sharp reactivity. Maybe that'll make him a boring ride, maybe it'll make him a great one that I'm less likely to spend the first year falling off of!

I'd go the latter. Personally I enjoy getting up every day knowing I'm almost certain not to get decked by a sparrow. With time you might find you like it too 😆

Re his length - might some models of western saddle or stock saddle be easier to fit to a short back? I know they distribute weight differently so it's not such a problem having them sat beyond the last rib. That's just an end-of-the-day wondering out loud.

My little mare (15.1 pure connie) is bold, inquisitive and just so engaged with me but she is also incredibly sensible and trusting. I love her. Some would consider her boring but I think there is a lot to be said for a horse you can take most places and who will enjoy the experience you planned with you. Atlas is gorgeous and is still likely to change so much (length and height)!

Good luck in Arizona! If you are around Scottsdale my all time favorite trainer moved there and last I heard (I’m off Facebook so we lost touch with all my moving) rents her barn out. But if you can get in touch with Kim Knott she’s amazing!

Atlas is adorable and you are so slight, I’m sure you’ll find a suitable saddle situation when the time comes. Keep the stirrups long and the seat short 😅
Not that my opinion matters at all, but I think this thread is a really fitting place for you to continue your story… Bog will always be a part of it. X

Thanks everyone! I’ll keep you updated!

I know it’s been suggested but I can’t really bear to start a new Atlas thread. But will keep posting in Boggles if people want to hear about him, hopefully he will get more interesting as I start to back him etc.

I post more day to day stuff on insta stories genevieve_isobel if anyone wants to see that load of repetitive rubbish! It is in no way some glitzy glam curated insta just Pepper and ponies and the weather mostly 🤣

No bullshit if you get into a sticky parents and their neighbors will be there to help. My mom is a horse mom and their neighbors have a working ranch in North Dakota that their son now runs so they can winter in AZ

Yeah he did it’s more there’s lots of things that can go wrong lol. It’s not like travelling in the UK, there’s miles and miles of absolutely nothing and no cell service.

Anyway! Nearly ready to go so hopefully Atlas will be a good boy and my truck won’t let me down either!

I’m sure you’ll be fine! Atlas seems like a cool dude and no doubt you’ve prepared everything to the Nth degree. Good luck!

Make sure you give approximate locations for where you will have cell service and can check in with people!

So you're expecting to be at A by 1 to 2 time, B by 3 to 4.

That way you split your journey into shorter stints, and if people don't hear from you they atleast have a vague idea where to send the search party!

I've done this in the last also by sharing my location, and sometimes I go out of service so I look like I've vanished but people can keep track of where I reappear and can see what route I'm taking (though admittedly this wasn't in the US!)

Long drives towing in Aus were so easy, and low stress compared to some of the much shorter towing trips I've done here.

Once your out of the mountains and cruising on motorways the miles/kilometers will fly by.

Load up audiobooks/podcasts for when you have no reception, take snacks and water and enjoy the drive!

(Ps photos when safe would be lovely ;) )

I'm sure Atlas will be absolutely fine, he seems like a cheerful chap who will take it all in his stride.
