Boggle- USA bound!

I'm a worst case scenario type, but it's entirely possible that Bog will indeed go back to the barn and a you'll be gracing us with lovely photos of him and the scenery again! Yeah, you are right. And I know these things can happen and I know truly it’s not my fault BUT if Boggle doesn’t make it because of some weird ass American virus that he’s picked up through being here… I am not sure how I will even begin to forgive myself for that.

It’s so unfair, I see owners all the time making stupid decisions on their horses (online, fb, shows) and getting away with it. I do EVERYTHING I can, absolutely everything to put my horse first and make the right choices for him. I’d do literally anything.

And still, somehow, he’s the one in the ICU with a very uncertain future right now.

I guess life was all going a bit too well, something had to burst the bubble at some point.

Try not to panic... it is not uncommon for some viruses to be biphasic, ie : they throw a raised temperature, appear to improve, and then their temperature rises again.... and once that breaks, they are usually on the road to recovery.

Hang in there....he is in the best place for any problems to be picked up early and acted on quickly.
 
OMG, the pair of you are being put through the wringer. Two things going for him are that he is such a fit horse, and that you knew he wasn’t right so got him there PDQ.

Everything crossed, and recovery vibes sent.
 
Michen, have only just caught up with this post. So sorry that Boggle is poorly and wishing both you and him all the very best.
 
I really want to speak to my trusted UK vet and have him review everything but I guess there's no point, and there's no way I can get any words out at the moment without bawling. If he was in the UK he'd have been admitted to a hospital anyway and not under his care but I just wish I had a familiar person involved in his case.

Maybe drop him an email another opinion could be helpful.

There was an EIA case in early June. Guess it would have been picked up on your bloods, but maybe worth mentioning.

Google tells me that last year there were a number of issues reported in wild horses after wild fires in the area. Not sure if there are any around at the moment.

Trying to be helpful, not alarmist....fingers crossed for the boy.

Not pointless, you will have reassurance that Bog is getting the best treatment from Uk as well as USA.
I understand how important it is to have respect and trust for a vet. ..i have 1 on 'speed dial' for the dogs, and the 3 partners for the equines. they are knowledgeable, will gives the facts and prognosis without being influenced by money etc.
Hang in there, you are doing everything for Bog that you can possibly do.

That's how I felt with the horse import debacle. When I decided that I ultimately wanted to bring mine with me, make the commitment to him for life, and fork over the cash, I couldn't import him. Whereas others import all the time and sell for profit, or I know others that have brought theirs over just to lease out and make money on, and other things. So to me it was just "unfair" that my horse that I loved and cared about couldn't come with me. Others that seemingly don't care about the horse(s) could import theirs, but I couldn't. It has basically ended my riding ambitions but life is just unfair. Same with the people that keep their horse in a literal junkyard with nary a scratch! But a horse kept properly will find a way to sever a limb!

So you are right, it is unfair! Life is also fill of ups and downs and it can be downright exhausting. I'm not going to fool you into thinking otherwise, but this might not be the end!

Edit: that's really lovely of your UK vet! What a gem he is!

Could she go with you to visit Bog, as a support, when you insist you want to cuddle him? She may be able to articulate your needs better as she is not so emotionally attached.
 
Sending you lots of best wishes Michen. As always, you have Boggle in great shape, so he'll be best placed to fight this off, he's a tough horse, and it certainly sounds as though they're taking great care of him in the veterinary hospital. The collective H&H Forum are sending you lots of good luck vibes across the Atlantic at the moment, it might feel like you're a long way away, but you're in all our thoughts. ❤️
 
This is just awful for you both atm M. Sounds like Bogs immune system has decided to kick what ever this is’s arse with his fever response, and isn’t he in the best place with vets on hand to ice legs and keep watch over him. Hoping you get to visit soon and routing for you both with everyone else 🤞🏻 also very impressed with your UK vet.
