Boggle- USA bound!

Mundane life question… would you guys send Boggle to a (very very good) rehab place over Christmas? I’ll be gone 3-4 weeks and whilst he could do bits with someone at current place it’s not ideal as the indoor is very deep, although that probably doesn’t matter for what he’s doing in reality.

I could pack him off to a swanky rehab and see if they can get him further along, would probably cost me about 3k though, but maybe worth it for piece of mind/trying to get him right?

He’s been through a lot though I’m not sure if it’s a fair ask for him to move barns again, is my main thing…
Personally I'd leave him be.......

He looks settled and well. You know he's OK there and he looks like he's beginning to work out his proprioception judging by the videos.

Could you pay someone to do a bit more with him several times a week instead to help with his rehab?

I think I too wouldn’t like to move him but understand why you’d think about it.

Yes there’s a lady that will do a bit but it’s probably not going to be massively consistent and I don’t love him doing too much on the deep surface though at a walk it prob doesn’t do much harm.

The rehab place would do more proper long reining etc.

If it’s not broke don’t fix it!!!

He is coming along very nicely and slow and steady is the way to go IMO, why change when he looks so fabulous…. At least you know he won’t be doing too much while you are away and you can crack on once you are back and you know him so well you will immediately know how much to do

I think given everything you’ve been through recently, both of you probably need some consistency right now. Three or four weeks is nothing really, he’s settled and you like it there so I would stay. And a deep surface won’t matter if he’s only walking. Glad the HHO gift was a nice surprise for you - and looking forward to seeing what you’ve bought! 😊

Cake
Thanks guys for the sense check, I can't decide on anything these days, I'll be posting about what I should eat for breakfast soon lol.
l wouldn’t move him - it might cause you to worry more, and he seems to be getting along fine, even with piggies input. Cake is always a good fall back but so is chicken soup. I’m sure there was a breakfast thread at some point, as it’s nearly Christmas you can eat just about anything Just now😀

I’d leave him where he is. Remember when you were trying to decide on which yard, there was the suggestion that if further down the line he/you needed more than this could offer there was the option of a further move. Well if in a couple of months you decide that this isn’t working for whatever reason, would you want the rehab move followed by yet another one?

Thanks all that confirms what I was thinking tbh. And I didn't really want to spend the money, my vet bills have capped out at just under $65,000 iincluding the extremely expensive EPM medication for the last 12 months it's kind of sickening :(
Jeez...
That's mind blowing.

And I'd not move. You'll have to reintroduce Kermit to Miss Piggy. All. Over. Again

Yeah it really is. I don’t begrudge it, and in some ways I’m relieved I’ve never had to at any point consider if Boggle is worth it to me whereas there is no other horse I’ve ever owned that I’d consider spending that amount on. They’d have been PTS at less than $10,000!

But it’s still hard to swallow especially when you think of what you need to earn pre tax to get to that amount.

Hey ho, didn’t want to buy a house anyway ;)

Given all you've been through this year I'm not surprised you're second-guessing yourself just now. That's what we're here for;);););)

Seriously, I would not move him either. We forget the value of convalescence (as I bang on about constantly) and I don't see why that should not apply to horses as well. He has been through so much and, if he seems happy and settled, then let this rest period do its work. So long as he is doing something then I am sure he will be fine for 3/4 weeks and you can both come back together from a better place in the New Year.

ouch

House ownership is over rated.

Although I think the US lottery might be worth entering!!

Perhaps there could be an arrangement whereby we just set up a direct debit to the vet and skip the horse being broken, bit. It would be far less stressful.

I joked when I bought an ex racer that I might as well cut out the middle part and go straight to buying a horse which was already broken. I didn't realise quite how close that joke would be to the truth!
