Boggle- USA bound!

Don’t panic Michen.
My friend loaned a horse that had been badly kept. His coat had become a faded ginger colour. It took 2 years for his dark liver chestnut to return.
What was one of the other threads asking the other day?
What does ‘looking well in his coat’ mean?
I think Dusty needs time in everyway.
You may yet call him Shiney.

How the heck have I convinced myself to keep hold of a horse and pay for it (having said I absolutely won't be shelling out a dime, that was the whole point), at least for now, that is the polar opposite of everything I like in a horse and is built like a total disaster.

How many times did I say I cannot and will not have a second horse to Bog. But oh, if I move in to this house share instead of a fancy city center apartment, I can have a second and Bog can still have everything he needs and his twice monthly e stim acupuncture, how convenient!

FGS lol. I need help :D

You can always sell dusty down the line, once he's a lovely all rounder.

He wouldn't be mine to sell, you adopt them from the rescue and I believe they go back if anything changes. Anyhow I guess I've decided to keep him for a bit and see where it all goes ;) I had Bear for nearly 3 years and never felt like he would be one I'd want to keep and Dusty in less than 3 months has for some inexplicable reason managed to make it a possibility. Despite having half as much personality as Bear. I don't get it!

I hope so! I was kinda shocked the other day to see an “influencer” on insta who bought their horse back into work after three years off, cantering it around on the bit under saddle after a few rides. Maybe I’ve been overly cautious with Dusty but 8 weeks in and he’s done 5 of solid groundwork, and probably less than 10 minutes in trot under saddle so far. Whilst I’m here with good hilly hacking he will hack 80% of the time. I’d have done more groundwork if he was my own, and not under a slight time limit if he was to be rehomed.

I said something about that, I never comment on youtube, but it was bloody disgusting, I then got attacked by all her fans. Shes only a little pony mare, carrying her top weight after having 3yrs off and a foal. Cantering on a surface should have been 2 months down the line. I was really saddened as I thought better of her than that.

I think alot of us have fallen for horses that on paper are absolutely the wrong/not the right type for us. But they worm their way in and become heart horses.

This. I think you’ve both been through a rough patch and you both need each other right now. He may not be a forever horse but he sounds like a lovely chap who just needs someone to show him life can be good.

No you don't - just stop fighting the path that Dusty is trying to lead you down. He knows best!!!

Agree with others that his coat will come right from the inside out with good feed and a full Summer on his back.

Glad you are enjoying the long, rangy, swinging TB walk - nothing like it!!

I can't just have temporary horses or projects because I can't see them go so I don't do it, I get offered horses all the time because people know I have them at home they think you will just happily take them on.

I think working for dealers when I was young has damaged me I would sometimes get attached to some, then be devastated when they went and the horrible people I worked for would take some to sales and make you ride the ones they knew you liked 😪

Same. I also don’t really enjoy the bit where you are getting to know them and nobody quite knows if the other can be trusted or not. I’d be terrible as a seller and would probably spend sleepless nights over whether it was a good home. I’ve had horses for 40 years and never sold one, although I’m very glad people do, or I wouldn’t have mine 😀

I've broken Bog :( Ever since I started taking Dusty out hacking, despite returning to a relaxed Bog having eaten all his hay, Boggle has become super aggressive towards him. A level of aggression I haven't quite seen from him before. He's not directing it at me, but then he never would. The first few days I thought it was fluke or just a random moment but I've seen him consistently being overly aggressive for several days now.

I assume it's one of two things- ulcers have kicked off because I've stressed him out leaving him alone for 45 minutes. Or something has changed and he's suddenly now in a load of pain. Despite being on daily pain relief, in which case it's time. Having just watched the way he trotted down a hill towards me, I have a horrible feeling it's the latter.

I have started omeprazole and waiting for sucralfate to arrive Friday. Absolutely praying I've just upset his stomach and it helps quickly :(

I am so upset, gah, this is not right. I really don't think him being left alone for a short period of time is enough to warrant him suddenly being so aggressive.

And you are saying he's eaten his food and he's super relaxed when you get back...

Could be the move. Forage change too?

Try not to get too worried it could have just been the move have triggered the ulcers it often doesn't take much.

I think the way he trotted down the hill is what's upset me, his legs were flailing everywhere, like a foal. It was weird because he's seemed 95% normal on his feet until I saw that.

So the change in behaviour also coincided with a change in forage as I had new bales, but, Dusty hasn't changed. And I changed the forage at the same time as I started hacking Dusty out so... unsure.

When I moved him, I gave him sucralfate twice a day as a matter of course, I can't remember what day I finished it but probably a good 4/5 days before this aggression started.
