As smart and fancy as he is, he is everything I don’t like about the way the sport is going. Too fancy and has to be too produced. Doesnt have the true xc brain for me. He will still get some big wins I’m sure, but this isn’t the sport imo.

That’s a great point - how does a horse learn to think when it’s either complete, or walk home? What happened to having an issue and still educating and completing, like Caroline Powell did last year at Badminton? Or is such a produced horse likely to fall apart even more, and so the cycle continues.

Wonder if he’ll go to Pau again. He’s not going to be a team horse any time soon.

I reckon he will go to Pau.
I suppose Ros has that luxury. She has a number of top horses, she has nothing to prove. A horse like Izilot is all or nothing, at higher risk of mistakes (given his brain) and injury (given his mobility) so it’s natural you protect them.

I also think that because he's not being 'naughty' IE he's not deliberately saying no, he's just the type to get distracted and to lose a bit of concentration, he doesn’t need to be reprimanded by carrying on. He won’t have realized he did anything bad today, he'll just have run a few fences, pulled up, and will got to another event in a few weeks

Also hes so fit, and the mistake was early, it makes sense to reroute to be competitive at Pau.

I really like that coloured Irish horse 🥰 shame he had the glance off but right decision to retire and save him for another day.

Thrilled for Max Warburton.
