Burghley 24 entries

Most of the outfits have seemed sensible. I can't think it is a good idea for ladies to try to run alongside a fit, strong horse wearing high heels.

I didn't think the American horse did a very good trot up.

I suppose the flower pot at the end is to make them do a proper turn, but half of them are spooking at it!

I’ve just got home. I had a great day, despite leaving my lovely picnic (that I got up at 5am to make) on tbe kitchen table! It was cold and windy but stayed dry. The ground is great. I had trainers on all day.

Ros did a fabulous test. She was warming up for ages. The pirouettes and the flying changes seemed to be where people were losing marks.

Be warned, if you’re going tomorrow, they played music during the tests today. A bit Enya type, very chilled, but there were about four tracks on a loop, so it drove you mental after a while! I’ll be humming it in my sleep tonight.

I decided that I couldn’t be bothered to walk the course, but the ones I did walk looked big.

I watched the arena familiarisation before I left. Jonelle’s horse was on its toes!

Oh, and William Fox-Pitt did a really interesting demo after the dressage where he rode the clones of Tamarillo and Chilli Morning. Really strange seeing him on “Tam” again.
We saw that on Burghley tv. We're going tomorrow and Saturday.

I don't think that I have seen so many breastgirths/plates on dressage saddles.
Horses are super fit I know but it just struck me.

The American was Monica Spencer on Artist, a really lovely test and gorgeous horse! I was hoping to go to Burghley this year as I've never been but I health has been a bit iffy of late so decided to get the Burghley TV subscription and making the most of it. There have been some super tests, Carl's commentary was really excellent and I also enjoyed his masterclass, I wish it had been early on Thursday as it really explained the difficulties of the test. He liked the new test and the influence of the walk piris followed by trot really sorted horses out. WF-P didn't like the test and was quite vocal about it, haven't watched his masterclass yet as I'm saving it for this evening. I really enjoyed the trot up on Wednesday and actually felt quite nervous for some of the riders as it could be quite hairy. I am really looking forward to XC, it looks very challenging, just hope everyone stays safe.
