I'm going on Saturday, which is the first time since before the M42 was built, so that dates me. I can't really remember much about the day, but I do remember driving back through Coventry in the dark.

So I'm looking forward to it, rather disappointed that there are only 50 horses, so we will have to be out on the cross country course from the start.

I'm just wondering what time I will have to get up on Saturday morning.

I go to Badminton every year and have done a few Burghley's. On the XC day, we usually aim to arrive by 8-8:30am.

It isn’t scored like a normal class so they forgive an SJ down, so long as the horse demonstrates that it has learned from it
 
Can anyone there tell me whether there is a garden furniture stand next to the food area by Discovery Valley (was next to the marquee last year). If so could you get me their name/number. I bought a set from them last year and it was fantastic. I had intended to buy another set this year if we’d gone. And I can only find the website, which is much more expensive.

I'm always happy when I see Andrew Bennie is judging - I've got my best 2* score under his judging, and also bump into him judging BD locally. I always feel he rewards good work when he sees it from any type of horse and isn't so swayed by "fancy" - a friend just rode a BD medium under his judging on her 24yr old welshie and got lovely marks for the good bits.

Totally agree, I've been judged by him a few times and I've always found him to be very positive and fair.

I'm another who really likes him! What is probably more years ago than I like to remember, he judged our baby event horse when he won!
Seems to really use his marks well!
 
its interesting to me that after how spicy and wild a lot of the horses were looking in the trot up, the vast majority have come through and mainly stayed quite relaxed and rideable - or indeed, more relaxed and rideable than they normally are. Emma Thomas's ride on Icarus was definitely by far her best - he can be quite wild and is often 45+ pens, yet he actually delivered some nice work with really accurate flying changes and sits on 37.3

I was wondering how they scored it, if they have a pole down, do they not gallop…
Haven’t watched, but was looking at score sheet on Rechenstelle…..and couldn’t understand it…absolutely delighted for Susie Berry and Purple Rain obviously…..
If someone could explain I would be delighted
 
Marshpiper, dressage and jumping scores are added together with a mark, that back in my day was called conformation but is now called suitability. The top ten come back in together for final judging and marks added in with a gallop. I know what I mean, hope that helps!

Some fabulous tests today (in fact generally they’ve been great this Burghley!)

Re Ollie, while I’m not really a fan, I think half of his mistakes (riding too hard and revving the crowd up) come from being ridiculously competitive and too in the moment. But he just doesn’t grow out of it or learn lessons.
