CC has adopted Squatter's Rights near anywhere that I sit. She has commandeered the top of the dog cage, which is upholstered with dog blankets, held down by old Arabian Horse magazines and a cashmere throw.
From this vantage point, she can survey the whole of the barge interior, the rolling river, the sky, the movements on the pontoon and, in the distance, the far bank and its' public pathway.
She keeps up a continual gossipy commentary: "Cor, Missus - look at the state of that! I've seen better legs on a ham shank!" "Ooh - that's the third bloke he's brought down here this week. Says they're his brothers. Hmm. I wasn't born yesterday . . . " 'Cause, I'm not one to gossip, but did you SEE the length of her skirt - if I'd looked, I'd have been able to see her undies. These young things. No shame." All said with plump paws hoicking up her ample bosoms.
She's hilarious. She'll fixate on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex next, mark my words!

CC is becoming choosy now plump paws are under the feed bowl mat.
We are (slightly) going off Sheba. We are continuing to scarf down biscuits.
I forsee a rapidly-approaching journey through high-value tinned cat food.
Never mind. What CC wants, CC gets.

I've tried to post a photo of CC, but have been informed that the file too large?
I give up.
Not au fait with the (to me) finer points of re-sizing photos from an antiquated old mobile.
I'll traipse up to the library on Thursday afternoon and see if the infinitely patient library ladies will do it for me.

You could take a screen shot and post that, usually.

How is her Ladyship settling in now she's been with you over a week @Ratface ?
Thank you for your kind enquiry.
Her Ladyship is still quite unsettled during daytime hours and usually spends them under the companion way or behind the wood burner. She's fine if I'm in the saloon. She comes and sits next to me and chats away. Stroking produces Rolls Royce purring. The sight of wet cat food and she beetles across the saloon into the galley and inhales it at pace! Previously, she was only fed dry biscuit, so the wet food is a big, welcome treat.
She likes being groomed, which I do on a daily basis with a pin rake. She has a massive coat and seems to enjoy being groomed, but won't stand still. She winds herself round and round and it's like grooming a furry caterpillar!
She's not keen on going further than the saloon and the galley. She comes to the aft cabin promptly at 0515hrs to indicate breakfast should now be served. It duly is.
I think she's doing quite well. Everything is so completely different to her previous life. I think that another month and she will feel more confident to perhaps go up into the wheelhouse and review the fleet.
I'm still crying over the so-sudden loss of King Kevin Kat.

She sounds wonderful RF, lots of Chubby Cat Character already. Hopefully soon she will relax a little further. Am hoping PO and tormenting children have given up on the idea of visiting her?

King Kevin Kat will be washing his paws in a most contented manner watching CC benefit from all his training xx

Glad to hear her ladyship is taking her cue from KevinKat, it’s early days and after a while you will be able to remember KK and smile not weep… I lost one of my lurchers in 2016 just 2 weeks after I lost my horse and she was a special girl, I have her as my screen saver and see her every day and can now smile but there is one song that always makes me think of her and cry. I have no idea why it still happens now but only with this particular song, you may find that some things will trigger tears but that’s ok, they never really leave us but stay in our hearts ..

I had a polite text from PO's wife, enquiring after the welfare of Chubby Cat. Apparently, he's "too upset to ask, and the children want to see her soon".
I haven't replied yet. It's like I have a school teacher wanting to know when they can expect my homework to be in. I'm tempted to block the whole lot of them, but my "Be polite at all times, dear" upbringing is still deeply embedded. They did their best to send Chubby Cat with a half-bag of food, four unwashed/chipped dishes and three too-small collars, complete with bells.
Advice, dear friends? In polite terms, obviously.

PS. I forgot to mention the tiny litter tray that was more suited to guinea pig droppings. She now has a huge one, similar to the one that Kevin Kat had, for his metre-long Personage.
CC loves this, treating it as her personal sand-pit as well as a suitable place for a comfort station.
She's spending less time behind the wood-burner now. If I'm in the saloon, she wedges her stout person into my side, sighs a great long puurrr - and goes to sleep.
Good Cat.

I would reply something on the lines of.., thank you for your interest, chubby cat is settling in well, so I don't want to upset her by having visitors at this time. Cats can be very perceptive and will be able to pick up any upset which of course we both would not want. However i can send photos as I understand she'd must be greatly missed.

You lot are hilarious! Thank you for making me laugh when the M E is making me feel like death dished up and my view of most of the human race is less than generous.
Can't post photos of CC as antiquated mobile doesn't have the capacity to do so.
CC has now stopped bolting the wet food, joyfully throwing most of the cat litter all over the saloon and is only spending minimal time in hiding behind the wood burner.
Brave Cat.

“yes, do come. My brother’s finally home from Broadmoor after 30 years. He’s such a delight, as long as he takes his meds. Which reminds me- must chase the chemist as it was due to be delivered last Tuesday. Must be short staffed, and they won’t come alone! We both have Covid but don’t mind that. Nobody bothers these days, do they. It’s just a cold! How about tomorrow? Let me know and I’ll make sure to hide the knives…”

I think it is important to let her old family know she is ok. The children may be worried and missing her. It was not them that gave her away it was the mum.

How about "CC has settled in well and is happy. I am afraid I am not up to having visitors as I am still struggling with grief over loosing KK and and need some solitude and my ME has flaired up which means I get easily tired. I can assure CC is being well looked after and appreciate it was difficult your family to give her up for adoption".
