I said ‘unnecessary’ and went and sat down. My mum, possibly the most unlikely person in the world to say anything, told this woman off! Deeply impressive. Woman didn’t reply but dragged poor Daxie, tail down and trembling, saying ‘good girl’(?) and tied her up to a chair before coming back to further along the bar. She wasn’t escaping mum that easily!
‘You should be ashamed… ‘ your dog is scared of you, does that make you proud’… etc. I’m stunned!

I have read that a girl who was riding her horse on her own land, was attacked by an off lead bull type dog that was being walked on an adjacent road. The horse was injured and the girl was thrown. This was Sunday afternoon and I am guessing North Devon area judging by the vets she used. I hope this was reported to the BHS.

Human beings are some of the most utterly horrific creatures there are.
I feel sick reading this.
I hope the person responsible dies a horrendous death.
 
Last month two German Shepherds were found tied together and weighed down with a dumbbell in a lake in Co Tyrone.

USPCA offered £1000 reward for information.

Does anyone know if they found the person who did this?

Not sure how reliable this is but awful if even half true. Poor farmer. Poor sheep. The comments are dreadful - well, they were going to be killed anyway sort of thing. I despair.
 
Unbelievably on a local Facebook dog walking group, some stupid woman has posted asking where the best places were for her dog to chase squirrels!!! Apparently, not only did her dog enjoy it but SO DID THE SQUIRRELS😳

Two people posted explaining that this was stressful for wildlife to be chased, but many people suggested various places where wildlife were happy to be disturbed 🙄🙄

They may want to be reminded that they would probably be defying the Wildlife Act by allowing their dogs to actively disturb wildlife.

Oh, I can believe it. Every day at the back of my house there are people who bring their dogs to entertain themselves chasing squirrels in the wood. And barking.

It is indicative of an owner who can't be arsed to do anything with the dog themselves.

Morons....although I admit to finding rabbity areas to train my dogs on, they are Gundogs and need to learn to stop on a flush, NO WAY on this earth would I let them randomly chase squirrels just for their own fun...
 
Squirrels are a major reason why the current JRT is always on a lead 😳.

She apparently remembers squirrels from her former life as a Bolton city dog - there were none in her garden.

It’s amazing how much force a 7kg JRT can exert on the lead from a 0-100 mph. We are resigned that we will never get recall if she spots a squirrel.

A tummy scratch (her favourite thing) will never cut it over a squirrel.
 
I have a few acquaintances which, while they would be mortified if their dogs chased stock, seem to think its perfectly fine for them to chase deer.
I really don't understand this mentality or logic from theoretically responsibile owners and have vigorously pointed out how cruel, irresponsible and dangerous this is, not only to their dogs (accidents when running crazy through woodland, across roads etc) but similarly for the deer for the same reasons (possibly causing RTAs) as well as potentially abandoning their fawns as well.
People can be so blindly stupid sometimes.
 
Local rider in hospital with a broken bone today after a dog chased her horse on the beach and she came off.
Typical idiot dog owners commenting on FB that she should have kept the horse away from the dog and dogs have every right to run free on the beach.
Honestly, the mood I’m in today, I just had to come off there before I lose my sh*t.

It takes half a second to put your dog on a lead. I had three on the beach today. Horse appears, dogs on lead. Easy.

What is actually wrong with people?! - running free doesn't have to mean chasing things and hospitalising someone.

Not really an irresponsible one for us as technically they weren't doing anything wrong but I was absolutely horrified to round the corner to the pocket park at the end of our road and find the XL bully that gets walked on a prong collar round here, off lead in there. I'd sent OH on ahead a few steps to see if the park was empty before we reached it, partly because of this exact fear. I don't like prong collars but the absolute size of this dog is nothing I have seen in any other dog - it is tall as well as being muscular - I cannot imagine a regular collar holding it if it really went for someone/something. Seeing it off-lead made my stomach drop and I immediately turned round to walk the other way. OH wanted to carry on and walk past, and I did get upset with him because I am so genuinely fearful.

That little park is so useful for the hot weather as it is so close and there is lots of shade, and when I have been unwell recently it gave an easy place to get out of the house for Ivy to potter around for a bit and practice recall as it is a small enclosed space. As soon as OH has sorted out his work situation we are out of here because I want our walks to go back to be the decompressing loveliness they used to be. We still met annoying dogs and owners but it was rare to feel actually unsafe.

One lady even had the audacity to comment, “Accidents happen. You shouldn’t be blaming dog owners when they are just allowing their dog to have a run off lead.”
When someone has dared to suggest that perhaps dogs should be called back to owner and put on lead if a horse is in the area and dog is likely to chase, this lady has said “well not everyone can get their dog back, can they?”
Head. Brick wall.
 
And a black lab in the boot of a car outside a small sainsburys this afternoon when temperatures had reached 32C. Fortunately a lady passer-by and another managed to open the boot, get the panting dog out and stay until male dog owner returned ten minutes later, who proceeded to call the ladies ‘sl*#’s’ and ‘low life scum’ for interfering.

Honestly, they are all out today where I live!

That protection probably only applies to red squirrels.

Grey squirrels are considered an invasive species or vermin; there is no closed season, any trapped or captured grey squirrel must be humanely dispatched and not released into the wild. Letting a dog chase them around, though, isn't exactly a great idea.
