She also told people she had covid. And hoped anyone who opened the gate caught it. Police were informed. She’s also tried to run a neighbour over in her car.
@exracehorse Please PLEASE wear a hat camera (you can get one for about £43 - Chilli Tech Bullet Camera (it doesn't contain bullets FYI :D ) and record any dealing with this lovely individual and submit them as evidence to the Police to back your report above.
Might find this "lady" moderates her behaviour once she realises it is being recorded and fed back to the Police. Protect yourself (and on the road too!)

In Shropshire, a landowner recently randomly erected a 3ft spring loaded gate at the top of a steep slippery bridleway, in such a way that you'd have to rein back down the steep embankment (with a 20ft drop on one side, track is 3ft max wide) to open it - never been a gate there before so it was illegally installed.
It took us a month to get rid of but via the BHS and County Council Rights of Way Officer, it has now gone. Over 100 riders complained via the Council portal about it.
How no one or their horse went down the sheer drop I will never know! Utterly dangerous and bonkers to install a gate that you cannot open from horseback there, and the track is too narrow to dismount safely (see drop mentioned earlier)
So it can be done! Hat cam footage submitted of how difficult it was to negotiate helped!

Yep camera footage is the way to go here.
As well as the chilli head cam you can buy clip on cameras by Boblov which are cheap, discreet but with good battery life and video/audio quality.

so would I and getting camera footage especially sound. Each incident where I felt threatened or heaven help us she actually assaulted me or the horse or my bike I would report.

The difficulty with this is that words are easy, action is not. It’s one thing to imagine an assault and verbal harassment being not too serious, but I certainly wouldn’t want to risk my horse being attacked (or dog).

People have to do what they feel comfortable with.

I can see what you are saying but what else do you do? just accept it? If everyone thinks that way the path that everyone is entitled to use basically becomes out of bounds.

we had a similar situation through a bridlepath past someone's house. We rode through, she called the police, they rang us, police and us had a good laugh.. Eat sleep and repeat.

I can't see what else you can do with these sort of idiots except keep ramming the point home.

I absolutely agree with you. You can’t stop using these things. I guess I’m just urging caution and would encourage riders/walkers to always go in pairs as a minimum.

But seriously, I know it’s unpleasant, but I do think she’s just a horrible mad bully. You must keep using it with other people with you.

So …. Council were informed that she had removed the signs. Within hours. They went up AGAIN today. Guess what .. signs and post pulled out of the ground. Council said that it might take until November before it’s an official route. Which is crazy. But .. we are to still use the lane. And log any harassment with the police. I will
Go again on Saturday and put my go
Pro on. But .. it’s terrifying going past .. CDB70211-BFBA-47DE-8541-2D50451D5B65.jpeg

Surely it's against her interest to remove the signs? If she wants to stop the map being changed she needs other people to complain as well as her. By removing the signs she's preventing people from finding out and potentially complaining? I know no one else will complain, particularly the people who see the sign as they use the lane but it still goes to show how flawed her logic is? What does she hope to achieve by removing them?

Somehow I don't think OP is dealing with logic by any stretch of the imagination. The lady needs mental health help. She doesn't sound like a happy woman!

My thing is, she didn't have to buy a house next to/on a shared lane ?‍♀️ so...she put herself there and is now angry. Oh, ok.

I might be inclined to take up the bagpipe and go for a stroll down the lane, daily. Easier said than done, I know.

Best of luck OP. So sorry you and others have to experience such behavior.

True, that's kind of the point I was making. If she can't see she's damaging her cause by removing them there's definitely something amiss. Although everything else has already demonstrated that!

Totally agree ! Although she will be the ‘only’ complaint as the council received over 100 evidence user forms. Plus 1.5k on line signatures. Mad as box of frogs.

I can imagine it’s terrifying, do you go alone?
No .. I used to. But she comes flying out. And shouts abuse. Plus you have to get off horse and open gate. So .. can’t even go by at record speed. I go past if I have another horse rider with me. Police rung me today. They are going to see her. As it’s classed as harassment. And they said she’s not allowed to have cameras up unless facing private property. But they are leaving that to the council ?.

Glad to hear you have a camera.

Can I suggest posting about this on any local hiking or cycling facebook pages. Ask them to help keep this route open by walking/cycling it regularly and using a camera. Tell them that any obstruction/abuse should be reported to the police and council.

Cyclists and walkers are a bit less vulnerable as they aren't worried about a horse getting injured or being spooked. There are also more of them and a higher % are men.

I also think this route needs to be used as frequently as possible but you should be careful about your personal safety.

Update .. logged complaint with police after she tried to shut gate onto my horse. They spoke to her. Long list of complaints to them. Told to still use lane. Another encounter from her who said the council had banned horses. Rung council. They said definitely not as it was a. In process of becoming a registered byway and b. as the lane has no owner, they can’t stop folk using it. Today …. House has gone up for sale !! 432CD50E-2850-417A-9D4F-298E7E12F832.jpeg

WHOOP!!! WHOOP !!!!
Well done lass ! x

Brilliant update!

Looks like a lovely house, she shouldn't have any problem selling it. Perhaps OP should arrange a viewing (can you image the look on her face!?), put in an offer, and make it as horse-friendly as possible! I'm sure the local HHO collective will help with decorating...
There’s an OPEN DAY. Should I go ?? ?
