    Paying for use of school

Every livery yard I have been on the use of arena is included with the livery price, I would begrudge paying extra for arena use. Floodlights have always been extra which I totally agree with.

Yard priorities... plus a bit of a rant

Based on the replies given here I have been very lucky with all the livery yards I have been on. My current yard is lucky in the fact that it has an 80x50m outdoor arena so there is plenty of room for someone to do flatwork and jump or lunge. It is also a small yard and everyone convientently...

    Turnout-your opinions please...?

Every horse is different and will each deal with different situations differently. Until about 2 years ago our horses were at yards where there was 24 hour turnout in the summer months but had to come in at night during the winter. I didn't think anymore about it as that was the norm...

For Those Who Wanted to Know - LOU

I haven't followed the entire story but there is definately life after a horse has the LOU stamp. Mine was stamped when she was 6 years old, I still have 9 years on and guess what, she hasn't been lame since. I even did some low level dressage, SJ and showing with her. Like others have said...

Hi Viz Wear - To Wear or Not To Wear - Hackers

I have done my Riding and Road safety test, anyone who wanted to hack out without member of staff had to pass the test (I was at boarding school). However by the time I left only 6th formers were allowed to hack as we had cattle grids at all entrances to the school, sadly one day a horse bolted...

Hi Viz Wear - To Wear or Not To Wear - Hackers

I always wear hi viz when out hacking regardless of the weather particularly since my mare dumped me on a hack once and galloped off. Heading back home she crossed a busy road at rush hour, thankfully she was safe and spotted by someone who was on the yard we were on at the time. She said the hi...

what's your proudest competiton moment and why?

Going to the Trailblazers SJ final, we had qualified for the 85cm class and was thrilled to be there because in 2003 we thought she would never be ridden again let alone compete. As a 6 year old she was diagnosed with navicular syndrome in both front feet and DJD in her right hock, no drugs or...

Transporting a horse from Scotland down south

I recommend Eric Gillie http://www.ericgillie.co.uk/ I have used them on many occassion, the lorries are all top of the range and the horses have arrived in great condition. The longest journey mine did was Maidenhead to St Andrews (about 500 miles) which included two overnight stops.

    Honeymoon OR Horse.... :)

I would say Honeymoon, your soon to be Husband is in the army which will likely include a tour to somewhere such as Afghanistan, where there is a high risk that he could get killed in action. There will always be horses for sale but your husband may not come home one day. When you buy...

equine degree's are they worth doing in this economic climate?

Throughout my time at school I wanted to work with animals, originally I was going to do vet but GCSE's were not good enough. After that I did think about doing an equine degree and go down the route of becoming equine nutritionist or do physio and then become an equine physio. However after...
