Older horse very tense at competitions

Thanks Nic, i think i make excuses for her, oh she's too old to change etc. And because she's older she knows all the tricks. Like i said she can be easily distracted at home so will definitely work hard on this, can do arena hire away from home too. How did you manage with Goofy when you...

Older horse very tense at competitions

Not sure if I'm alone here, but I have an older pony (22 approx) who until 2012 did nothing other than hacking. Since then we've been out to quite a few competitions over the years, a bit of everything before settling on dressage. The problem I have is I don't have any transport, so our outings...

    Talk to me about Navicular

It is very difficult to stand up to and disagree with the professionals. I took my mare barefoot a few years ago (fronts only). No reason other than I felt it was the right thing to do, she's been fantastic, I won't shoe another horse now :) All the best with your boy, I'm sure you are doing the...

PTT training and exam. Any tips?

Hi Natch! I'm also working towards my PTT. I don't have a lot of experience as an instructor as I missed the whole working pupil thing when I was a child. I've used the Hazel Reed books all the way through so far, which I find very useful. Also, definitely get the Themed Lesson Plans book. I am...

    Horsey blogs

I do love a good blog. I follow a few on wordpress as that's where my own blog is hosted, follow quite a few on facebook. Here's mine: https://dragondressage.wordpress.com/ - It's a training / competition blog about my classical dressage leanings, and how we play dodge the warmbloods whilst...

    Making your own chaff

Bit random I know, but it occurred to me last night and when I woke up this morning it still seemed like a good idea! I have a pony in her mid-thirties and one in her mid-twenties. I'm buying all sorts of soakable feeds for the older one, but suddenly thought, if I could chop my own hay up very...

Coarse blades on clippers for cushings pony?

Just a quick one, I have a set of Lister Liberty clippers which came with standard blades. They go through Saf's coat quite happily, but I need to now clip my other old girl who is growing her winter coat already. Would it be better to buy some coarse blades to get through her coat? The final...

    Benefits of going affiliated?

love affiliated comps. I have a very average Welsh D, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. There are other breeds other than WBs but you pay the same entry fee as them you have as much right to be there. I noticed a 5% drop in scores from unaff so take that into account. Go for it! :)
