Another fatal dog attack

When our family dog put my 6 year old nephew in hospital she was taken straight to the vets and pts. This was a dog that had been brilliant with children her whole life but that day she wasn't feeling well at 12 years old and it was incredibly hot. My nephew was told not to touch her as she was poorly and going to the vet later. Unfortunately whilst he didn't touch her he decided to lie down next to her and eyeball her so she bit his face. It really wasn't her fault or his just a sad situation. I took her to be pts (after treats and fuss) whilst my dad took my nephew to the hospital where he was kept in for a few days. This is why however good any dog is with children I will never leave my dogs unsupervised with a child. I don't remember the police being involved but they may have been.

And I am certain he was very relieved as were all of us who signed the petition to try and stop a huge miscarriage of justice. But I cannot see this in the same context as the poor child being killed, to try and do so is quite offensive to the dead child and their family IMHO. This was a chancer walking by the old fellah's house, who got a small nip on the leg. And it transpired this was not the first time she had accused a random dog of attacking her.
 
It's not about comparing it to a dead child, it's in the context of those who say any dog who bites a person should be immediately put to sleep.I know it's an emotive subject but you're attributing thoughts and feelings and motive to me that I don't have
 
I’ve read everything and still would do the same although the likelihood of one of mine having access to a child not related to me is pretty much nil. I’m thinking in context of my niece's 4 year old child and I would have no hesitation in that situation and police wouldn’t be involved

If your dog has been seized by the police you cannot make the pts decision. As has been said by CC.

Odin bit me, not long after we got him. Obviously I would never leave any of our dogs unattended with a child. I ended up on AB’s when the bite got infected. Clodagh told me to be very careful with him. A year on, and he’s never bitten anyone since, and he really does love all people. We think we know why he bit, he let go as soon as he made contact.

He could have done a lot of damage if I’d been a child, but he’s not a nasty dog, and we keep him and people safe.
 
So 'biting a child'. Children are more likely to be the victims of a dog bite and to suffer more serious injury. They are smaller, obviously, so eye/face level with dogs. They are more fragile/vulnerable to injury than an adult. They can often be high pitched and move quickly and unpredictability. They do not have boundaries in terms of knowing how to act/what do do and not to around dogs. Or overfamiliarity with strange dogs. I had no fear whatsoever because my own dogs were great.
