    Livery yards near Eastleigh/Southampton, Hampshire

Thanks all, that's really useful! I'll check out that FB group. Shame to hear there's fewer yards now, it's been almost 15 years since I left so I imagine it has changed a lot (and I didn't have a pony back then, so only really knew of the riding schools anyway). That's good to know about the...

    Livery yards near Eastleigh/Southampton, Hampshire

I'm hoping to relocate within the next year or so and starting to panic about livery yards! I know I have plenty of time yet, but perhaps need to start looking into yards and getting on waiting lists... Can anyone recommend any good yards in Eastleigh/Southampton area, ideally around Fair Oak...

Public liability that covers a sharer?

Does anyone know of a good public liability insurance that covers someone else riding your horse? I used to be with World Horse Welfare, but they've recently changed the policy to exclude cover if someone else is riding your horse unless you're physically present at the time. :(

    MUZZLES!

Did he escape out of the corner of the greenguard? Mine did this, I had to tie baling twine at each corner of the muzzle so she couldn't push her nose through, and it worked. Greenguard have a video here about how to do this. Mine also pushes the whole thing off over her ears, so I have to plait...

    Sharing a horse?

I think you just need to be clear that you're advertising him for full loan, not a part loan or share. So they'll take his passport etc. - it's up to them if they want to keep him at his current yard or move him but just be clear to them that they'll be financially responsible either way. It...

    Buying a horse and experience

I would go for it. I honestly don't think anyone is truly knowledgable enough for a horse until they just take the plunge and get one, I had been riding/loaning for about 20 years and thought I knew enough... nope! It's a steep learning curve but everyone goes through it with their first horse...

    How would you handle this?

They're both at fault - the car shouldn't have been overtaking before a bend in the road and it sounds like the police car was going too fast. I'd report it to the police, they might be able to track which officer was driving the police car, and assuming police cars all have dash cams they might...

    Knee pain when riding

Thank you so much this is all really helpful, this has honestly plagued me for months as I had no idea where to start with this one! I'll try your tips first Lindylouanne, and then perhaps see the GP as a last resort (feels a bit first world problems at the moment!).

    Knee pain when riding

Wondered if anyone else has experienced this, but for the past few months when I'm riding I get a sharp pain on the outside of my left knee. It's not really the knee so much as beside the knee, whatever that muscle/ligament is? It can make riding faster than a walk incredibly painful. I only...

    Loaning "deposit"....

I guess it depends on whether the person being considered for the loan has a substantial amount of money lying around for the deposit... a lot of people loan a horse if they don't have the lump sum available to buy their own, but can afford the monthly cost of maintaining a horse. Though if the...

    Feeding for freaking fabulous feet

I just have boots on the front (mine was only shod in front anyway), but you can put them on all four. I've been through deep mud, galloped etc. with no problems and they've never come off - I have Cavallos. But I know some people have found Cavallos to be a bit slippy on wet grass, plus the...

    Feeding for freaking fabulous feet

You'll probably want to invest in hoof boots when you first take off the shoes as she might be sore initially, it took mine about 6 months to feel comfortable enough to go without boots (she's a native too). Feed wise, I give her magnesium and brewers yeast which seems to help. She still needs...

How to get back into riding

Depends how long a break you've had? I've been riding since I was little, but had a 4 year ish break in my early 20s. I started riding again a few years ago and took up lessons at a riding school to get back into it, but only for a little while (as yes, it was very expensive), and then I found a...

Insurance advice for new loan horse please

I don't mean to intrude if this is the agreement you have made with the owner, but why would you need to insure for LOU? I once loaned a horse that I arranged insurance for, I also included LOU and in hindsight I wouldn't have done this. I suppose it depends on the context though; in my case the...

When was the last time you rode?

Last weekend, and won't be riding this weekend. Was beating myself up about it today, so I'm glad I saw this thread and realised I'm not the only one! No school, so can only ride at the weekend anyway. My pony sometimes takes off with me on hacks - the ground here currently switches between...
