    Strangles - secret or not?

Yes, the yards could be brave and put the word out themselves (which I believe they have a moral responsibility to do), which would kill gossip stone dead and put paid to any potential malice - as you said, the horse world isn't always whiter than white. It would take courage, yes, specially...

    Strangles - secret or not?

As the title really. I understand that a case has been confirmed in Bedworth, Warwickshire, but because the yard name isn't being circulated, it's going to cause a few problems for local shows, which began last week. Personally I think it's vital that the name(s) of the yards concerned are...

    Leather Therapy?

That's great news! I got the sample pack from Amazon around the time I made this post, and I still have quite a bit left - just as well as they don't do it any more! Anna, could you update us if you know the name of the UK supplier/s? Thanks :)

Ad - Free to good home ----------> Seriously

My mare's only ten, but my OH knows that if anything happened to me and he couldn't secure her a fabulous home he's to have her PTS. She hadn't had a nice life before I got her, and now she's one of the loveliest horses you could hope to meet, but I don't want to condemn her to an uncertain...

    Help settle a debate: haynets!

I'd like to feed off the floor but my mare's so messy so I use a haybag, straight off the ring. My back lady said bags are better than nets because they tend not to rag them around, so it helps their backs and necks.

    Leadropes getting thinner.

Odd - I had the opposite problem when I thought I'd lost my thinner leadrope the other week! My favourite one (a Cottage Craft) is too thick to go through the tether tie, and I went in several local shops to replace it without success. Luckily it turned up. Maybe we should buy and swap...

How to get a horse to eat his medicine!?

Mine has her meds mixed with treacle, and will lick it off a plate, though it's normally mixed with her feed. She's never tasted treacle without meds in it, so she'll wolf it down. She also loves flapjacks, specially the gooey ones, so small amounts can go in that.

horse names getting more odd ?

Mary. Oh dear. My mare's got a Sport Horse Ireland passport. I was asked for a choice of three names so I gave then Shamrock (her given name), Sham (what she's known as), and something else, which escapes me at the moment. It came back as Shammy.

We saw a monster on our hack today *WARNING - graphic photo*

Mine completely ignores daffs, so I really appreciate this timely warning. Thank you so much. However, I couldn't get her into the yard one night. Planting, then running back, even a full rear. The problem was, someone had brought a brand new broom on to the yard without discussing it with...

    He hates rugs!

We have a horse on our yard like this. He's getting on a bit (mid 20s I think) and he's retired now. He's fine in his stable wearing a rug, and he sometimes can be turned out in one, but then he'll have a total panic attack which takes him weeks to recover from, so these days he just goes out...

    Trainer in Warwickshire

Another vote for Vicki Maris :) And Blake McCusker's good as well, based at Coombe View. Katie McAlister is local too.

    Hay pillow

Normally, if I can make it myself I will, but in this instance I'd rather pay the extra knowing the item's fit for purpose, even if it means importing it from abroad. That said, we're not allowed hay in the fields anyway, so a moot point really! :D

If you sell it, you don't have a right to care

I've got the previous owners of the last two horses I bought (the first horse sadly died, wasn't sold on) on my Facebook and they often comment on pictures and, in the case of the current horse, on her progress. I think it's nice to be able to let owners know how the horse is getting on, but...

Washing muddy legs off from the field.. yes or no?

I've never washed a leg in my life (most of my horses have had light feather, but current one has a bit more than I'm used to) and have never experienced mud fever.

    Swollen hock

Where's the swelling? Is it on the point of the hock, because if it is it sounds like a capped hock. My mare had one and was never lame, but her hock looked really odd, and it wobbled when touched. The vet said it was best to leave it (unless I was planning on showing her, in which case he...
