He was the wrong rider for the horse .
 
anyone want to watch rembrandt borbet and nichole uphoff WM 1994 on you tube, its a very good view the way its recorded, and what do we think of his piaffe and his frame?

its very easy to watch!
 
Toe drag in passage, no lift in piaffe, tendency to run in extended trot although preferred the front leg to the spiders, also saw toe drag in walk and in the one test I watched he showed a lot of tension in the walk. TBH there were times I thought he didn't look quite right behind. Poll not the highest point but she does correct it, actually there were some mistakes too. I did watch a couple of tests and there was more lift in the piaffe with one of them but uneven. I did wonder if the toe drag was a result of the surface but I also watched one on grass and saw the same.

I watched the 2010 Kur. How could anyone not love the energy and showmanship, he's a joy to watch! Trot work is great, this is a horse made to passage and piaffe, super lift. I didn't love his walk though, I thought there was quite a of of tension in the collected walk, extended walk was better. Not a huge fan of the canter work either really, the canter piris were huge. Some of the transitions were a bit ragged too. Loved the music though and Diaz with his one handed work, such fun and although he's clearly a hot little horse, showing some tension at times, he clearly loves his work. I wish someone else would comment as I have no judging experience but I felt it shows how difficult it is to have a horse with the conformation to do the collected work as well as the lateral work with expression and freedom, let alone the trainable temperament to put it all together.
 
Spanish horses nearly always get the "tension" comment when compared to WB's in competition, but having ridden and trained both I can say that I find the opposite to be true, i.e: WB's look relaxed but aren't, and PRE's/Lusitanos look tense but aren't. Very, very different types of horses.

That's interesting but makes it challenging for the judge doesn't it, who can only mark what they see or think they see? A bit like the DAP + and - issue.

Just out of interest and because I am being so lazy ATM I looked out EG and Totilas Kur when T was 9. tbh I had a lump in my throat, I'd forgotten how magical he was when with Gal, just remembered him with Rath when he often looked less than happy. I'm not a dressage fan but remember seeing this at the time. And just like then, makes me a feel a bit emotional- what a horse!!!

What has happened to Totilas? Since he was sold he seemed to not feature any more?
 
my non horsey friend on only his first horse, i showed him all the videos , then said which do you like, he said he loved rembrandt and fuego, he loved rembrandt because, `he and the rider looked like they could walk on eggs and not break them`, loved fuego `` how could you not like that`` then i said what about the toto horses, and he could`nt remember what they were like

Yes, I recall his lameness at Aachen, and I know he hasnt competed since. No one that isnt involved closely with the horse knows what medication he may or may not be on now, but he was certainly being ridden, so not solely used for breeding, thats all.

He doesn't look very comfortable in that. Why force an unsound horse to work like that ?
 
Just going back again to the comparison between the older videos; are the horses shorter in the neck now or does it just look like that because they aren't as round in the old footage?

I think horses are shorter in the neck now and I much prefer the older footage especially for welfare reasons
 
Edward Gal rode a lovely stallion called Lingh He had I think the best music I have every seen for that horse .
it was magic .
On the video of Totilas I am glad he’s not stuffed in a stable all day but it’s a shame it’s not a video of him walking in the woods .
