I think you just need to 'see how it goes' . I have no experience in feeding larger horses but I do have a pony which is usually fine but loses weight in winter and regularly take into account his weight and increase if necessary.
I was out hacking the other afternoon and got caught as darkness fell. I had a massive hi viz jacket on , excercise sheet , boots etc and even then I didn't feel 100% safe or bright so I certainly wouldn't choose to ride in the dark.
... You get your nice newly professionally washed rug out and it looks all crisp and as good as new :D then you know that give it about 5minutes in the field and it'll be back to being disgusting! :(
I have found a little pony that seems to fit what I'm looking for. To those of you that have 'field ornaments' what do you insure them for?

I am looking to get a companion for my gelding. I have sat down and ran through the extra financial costs, but I'd appreciate if anyone could come up with anything I may have missed incase I have ignored something obvious. So far I have accounted for -

You should oil them as they're running and give them a little break. I think if you're going to take that time to do it (obviously you didn't know you were) then I'd think of sedating as its a long time for them to wait. I can occupy mine with some hay but only for so long, he also usually goes...
